Computing


Computing is a major area within the Faculty of Advanced Technology, with a wide range of cutting-edge undergraduate and postgraduate computing courses and an enviable research record. Our computer facilities are state-of-the-art, with an ongoing investment programme to ensure our students benefit from the latest technological advances.

Computer Forensics at Glamorgan has established a reputation for being one of best in the country. We are one of only two institutions that MI5 come to first, to select new graduates. We also have strong links with IBM, ESRI, BT, Fujitsu, Orange and QinetiQ amongst others.

Accreditation

Our main courses are accredited by the British Computer Society – a benchmark for excellence and integrity. The BCS is the chartered institute for IT, working internationally to bring together industry, academics, practitioners and governments to enable the information society.

Employing five million and with over one in twenty being an IT professional, in the UK – the IT sector is critical in facilitating the smooth operations of the whole UK economy.

Computing is not just the preserve of the typical “geek” – those working in computing have to be good communicators and problem-solvers too. There has to be an understanding of the wider impact of technical decisions at a business level.

Currently 55% of UK productivity is derived from the technology sector. It is widely accepted this sector will continue to grow. IT and technology is essential to the financial sector, service provision will continue to grow, as will the creative industries such as computer games, special effects and media.
