Research & Consultancy

We are a large multidisciplinary Faculty with strong research capacities across the subject range, and a significant number of research centres and units. We have strong links with policy makers, commercial partners and the third-sector. We offer consultancy advice, research & development capabilities, applied research and knowledge-transfer partnerships. We receive national recognition for our work in information security, mobile applications and services, and power and automotive systems engineering.

Research Excellence

The Faculty is host to over 120 full-time academic staff and a community of more than 150 research students. Over 80% of our research submitted in the last government research assessment exercise was judged to be of an international standard, with 5% of the Faculty’s submission being recognised as world-leading.

Industry links

The Faculty has excellent industrial links, working with Fujitsu, IBM, British Telecom, Orange, Welsh Assembly Government, Network Rail, Ordnance Survey and ESRI. We have a proud tradition of collaboration with the commercial sector through projects supporting technology transfer and applied research work. The Faculty has state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, the result of a recent multimillion pound investment programme.

The Project Shop forges links with community organisations based in south Wales and invites requests for research and development projects. The team matches final-year undergraduate or masters students with project topics and provides support during the project period.
