Associated Professional Bodies and Partners

It is vital the courses within Advanced Technology are current and stand up to the demands of the professional arena. We make a concerted effort in building and maintaining solid ties with our associated professional bodies and partners.

As a result many of our students benefit from significant exemptions from professional bodies on their way to chartered status.


The Institution of Engineering and Technology logo The Institution of Engineering and Technology – The IET

Professional society for the engineering and technology community, with more than 150000 members in 127 countries. The MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering course fully meets the IET educational requirement to become a chartered engineer (CEng), while the BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering degrees partially meet the educational requirements.

 

British Computing Society (BCS)

The BCS is the leading professional body for those working in IT – with over 68,000 members in more than 100 countries. The BCS are the qualifying body for Chartered IT Professionals (CITP). Most of our Computing courses are accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) – a benchmark for excellence and integrity.

 

Chartered Institution of Building Service Engineers (CIBSE)

The CIBSE is the professional body that exists to support the Science, Art and Practice of building services engineering, by providing our members and the public with first class information and education services. Successful completion of the BEng Building Services Engineering Degree meets the academic requirements for professional engineer status (CEng).

 

Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)

With over 42,000 members the CIOB is the international voice of the building professional, representing an unequalled body of knowledge concerning the management of the total building process. Our construction related honours degree courses are exempt from all written CIOB exams.

 

Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA)

The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications exists to support the advancement of mathematical knowledge and its applications and to promote and enhance mathematical culture The IMA is also the professional and learned society for qualified and practising mathematicians. Founded in 1964, the Institute now has over 5000 members. A recent IMA survey revealed mathematics graduates earn approximately 25% more than the average graduate.

 

Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is the fastest growing professional engineering institution in the UK with 80,000 members. IMechE works with leading companies, universities and think tanks, to create and share knowledge to provide government, businesses and the public with fresh thinking and authoritative guidance on all aspects of mechanical engineering. Our BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering degree is accredited by IMechE and will allow progression towards Chartered Engineer status.

 

Joint Board of Moderators (JBM)

The Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers together represent some 100 000 of the world’s leading professional engineers.

These four professional bodies have formed the Joint Board of Moderators to work and strengthen links with universities to ensure that educational programmes are in place to develop professional engineers that will continue to provide a global contribution to sustainable, economic growth and ethical standards.

Our BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering degree has recently been awarded full accreditation to Chartered Engineer status by the JBM.

 

Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors – is the pre-eminent organisation of its kind in the world. As such, it represents everything that is good in the property profession. RICS members offer the very best advice on a surprisingly diverse range of land, property, construction and related environmental issues. As part of the RICS role, they help to set, maintain and regulate standards. RICS also provides impartial advice to governments and policy-makers. Our MSc Construction Project Management is accredited by RICS.

 

Wales Quality Centre (WQC)

The need for excellence in the workplace is paramount and to this end The Wales Quality Centre provides a range of solutions aimed at delivering excellence in today’s workplace – from private and public sector to education. Today’s organisations have to work smarter, with pressures on resources, having to do more with less and competition an ever growing threat. Glamorgan’s strategic alliance with the WQC means they deliver modules for our MSc Total Quality.
